Atopics is an awareness film developed with the support of AADA (Asociación de Afectados por la Dermatitis Atópica), to break the invisible burden of Atopic Dermatitis and make it visible. Through a human and honest perspective, the film explores the causes, consequences, and everyday realities of living with Atopic Dermatitis — especially when it affects visible areas such as the face — combining knowledge, scientific rigor, and a touch of humor.

Through this initiative, Almirall joins World Atopic Eczema Day, led by EFA (European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients’ Associations) and GlobalSkin, two leading patient organizations working to elevate patient voices, improve access to care, and drive meaningful change.

#BreakTheInvisibleBurden

Synopsis

How can anything else matter when you’re living with a constant, relentless burden — on your face, your neck, your back, your legs — that won’t let you sleep, think, or fully feel like yourself?

During a therapeutic weekend in a rural villa, a group of individuals confront their fears, anxieties, and conditions.

Atopics is an ensemble dramedy where five very different people, with diverse lives and personal situations, discover they are united by a common burden: Atopic Dermatitis.

Faces behind Atopics

Five stories, one shared invisible burden and a journey to break it together.

He is Mario.

Mario is the gracious host of Villa Armonía.

As a therapist, he guides the group through dynamics, games… and his deep passion for cinema.

With Mario, the group finds a place to breathe, talk, and feel understood — because the invisible burden is easier to face when it is shared.

He is Santiago.

Above all, a father.

If there’s something that worries him more than his own problems, it’s those of his son, Junior — with whom communication isn’t always easy.

He carries the weight of caring for someone he loves, often worrying more about his son than about himself.

He is Junior.

Junior is finding his own voice.

Fears, doubts, and the feeling of not being understood by adults. A cocktail of emotions heightened with Atopic Dermatitis.

At an age where fitting in already feels difficult, Junior carries a burden that makes being understood even more important.

She is Cecilia.

Cecilia’s been through it all.

She’s seen every doctor, tried every treatment, every miracle cure… and now she has learned to face it all with humor.

Behind her irony lies the weight of too many disappointments — and a hope that has been tested more than once.

She is Julia.

Always stressed. Always moving.

And yet, fragile and vulnerable: Julia is pure sensitivity, with a smartphone in each hand.

Facing a burden she can never hide — always visible, unpredictable, and shaping her confidence, identity, and everyday interactions.

He is Tomas.

Tomas is a bit of a know-it-all.

But only because he always wants to understand.
When he doesn’t have an answer, he keeps looking until he finds one. For him, knowledge brings reassurance, helping him face uncertainty with optimism and a sense of control.

Behind every question lies a genuine desire to make sense of what he is going through.

She is Dr. Rosas.

Calm, observant, and grounded in science.

As a doctor creates a space where patients can make sense of what they’re going through — and start to find their way forward.

Her role is a reminder that seeking medical care is not only about treatment — it is also about being heard, guided, and supported.

High visible areas

For many patients, Atopic Dermatitis with visible areas involvement can affect more than the skin alone.

Being ashamed of the way you look, for example, when you have it in your face or around the neck.

Not being able to cover it and having to expose yourself to the people around you, to the looks of the others.

It is exhausting.

Atopics follows Julia, Junior, and Cecilia, bringing visibility to the reality of living with Atopic Dermatitis in areas that are difficult to hide, when every flare can be seen, but the full burden often cannot.
